Making the case for double denim | fashion

Double denim. A battle that has been fought, and often lost, since the 90s. Ok. I get it,we don't want to look like Britney and Justin at the American Music Awards. I mean who does? Probably not even them. Though double denim has made a comeback, and worn just right gives the perfect spring combination; for those 'in-between' days. And if you follow me on Instagram, you'll know how much I love double denim. If you really want to step up your denim game, look at street style inspiration on Instagram for the best looks, as well as infamous Emmanuelle Alt (the Editor at French Vogue).
Loose fit jeans tend to go much better when wearing double denim, so pair your favourite mom jeans and a contrasting denim jacket and you're all good to go. Adding a loose fitted shirt can give your outfit a casual aesthetic, whilst retaining that sophisticated edge.
Pairing similar colours of your denim may seem disastrous (see JT at the AMAs) but when styled right, it can work amazingly. Try to go for a much darker denim colour for this; think Levi's.
Matching your denim with a crop top and belt can break up the monotonous aesthetic; allowing a colour break. If you're going for the flat shoe approach, I'd recommend a looser pair of jeans. Try Topshop; their jeans are the best item of clothing you will ever buy. They're worth the high prices for how expensive they are. Or if you want to go for more luxury, try Levi's or Vetements.
Play around with different textures and prints, as well as colours with denim because these work more effectively.
Contrast your colours for a different effect. If you want to go super casual, I'd recommend a plain t-shirt, preferably white, to break up the colours. This also gives it spring vibes.
Indigo denim matches incredibly well. Again, try looser jeans when matching colours and pairing it with your favourite low-top trainers gives it those spring, 'in-between' vibes.

Would you brave double denim?
